Philanthropy

The Boys & Girls Club
BGCAFor over 100 years, the Boys & Girls Club of America has been providing the country's youth with nationally recognized programs for dealing with today's most pressing youth issues, and teaching young people the skills they need to succeed in life. The Boys and Girls club offers programs in the areas of education, the environment, health, the arts, careers, alcohol/drug and pregnancy prevention, gang prevention, as well as leadership development and athletics.

In 2005, the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity made the decision to formally adopt the Boys & Girls club of America as its national philanthropy. Here at Texas Gamma, we've established a close relationship with our own Boys & Girls Club right here in San Marcos. Each Friday, several Phi Psi brothers volunteer their time to help organize activities such as arts and crafts, music, science, and sports for area youth. Volunteering for the Boys & Girls Club has become an amazing and rewarding experience for both the kids of San Marcos and Phi Psi brothers that help them.

Fill Up the Truck

homelessIn the fall of 2007, the brothers of Phi Kappa Psi held a canned food drive for the Southside Community Center which collected well over 2,000 pounds of food and other canned goods. The center hosts an annual Thanksgiving Dinner for underprivilaged families in and around San Marcos, and provides food, fun, and fellowship to individuals and families who may not have the opportunity otherwise.

This past year, over 700 individuals and families paricipated in the community center's Thanksgiving Dinner, and Phi Psi was able to ensure that over 200 San Marcos families were provided with food.

Respect & Honor

familyviolenceThe gentlemen of Phi Kappa Psi have always maintained a strict attitude of respect towards all women they meet. Whether sorority women, female party guests, or our mothers and sisters, Phi Kappa Psi has always prided itself on providing a safe environment for the women in our lives.

In that spirit, Phi Kappa Psi started the Respect and Honor campaign in the spring of 2008. For over two weeks, the brothers of Phi Psi collected donations from fellow students to support the Hays and Caldwell County Womens Shelter. For over 25 years, the shelter has provided a safe environment for battered women and abused children living in the greater San Marcos area. The center also provides education, violence prevention services, and crisis intervention to victims of family violence. In 2007 alone, HCWC was able to help over 600 local victims of family violence take back their lives.

In cooperation with several Texas State sororities, the gentlemen of Phi Kappa Psi raised nearly $1000 to support this important cause. Respect and Honor 2008 was a huge success, and has since been adopted as one of our annual philanthropy events.
