Phi Psi Recruitment - Fall 2009

rushphipsiFor over 150 years, Phi Kappa Psi has been shaping the men that shape the future. Founded in 1852 by Brothers Letterman and Moore, Phi Kappa Psi was among the United States’ first social college fraternities. Over the years, the Fraternity has grown to over 120 chapters throughout the United States and lists a membership of over 110,000 brothers.

These individuals, as well as the long history of Phi Kappa Psi, are testaments to Phi Psi’s unique and superior fraternal programming, scholarship, membership and leadership. Perhaps the best opportunity that Phi Kappa Psi provides is the ability to cultivate a socially superior man. Phi Kappa Psi challenges its members to be the pillars of integrity and beacons of insight on their college campuses and within their communities.

By becoming members of the Greek community, Phi Psis experience what it means to be involved and responsible individuals who promote community services, active campus involvement, and high standards of academic achievement. Phi Kappa Psi enhances the collegiate experience while providing a lifetime of opportunity and reward. Its legacy demands nothing less than excellence...

Think you might have what it takes to join the Noble Fraternity? Take a look around this website for more information, and once you're ready, fill out the online Rush Registration Form so we can contact you about our upcoming recruitment events this Fall. Live Ever, Die Never!

Social Activities

n29608654_34403324_8530The numerous social events hosted by Phi Psi will provide you with some of the most exciting and entertaining times you'll have in college. Whether it's theme parties, date parties, formals or mixers, Phi Kappa Psi provides its members with a social environment that's second to none.

Theme Parties - Phi Kappa Psi is well known for putting on some of the most amazing theme parties at Texas State. Our often-imitated, never-duplicated Pajama Jam is an annual favorite for our brothers and new members. The Phi Psi Luau party has become almost legendary for its sexy hula girls, its Polynesian fire dancers, and its ability to draw some of the largest crowds at Texas State. Whether it's Halloweeen, Toga, or the Margarita Pool Party, Phi Psi's reputation for throwing great parties sets us well apart from the competition.

Mixers - Mixers are basically large theme parties hosted in conjunction with one of Texas State's beautiful sororities. Over the years, Phi Kappa Psi has held mixers with ADPi, DZ, AZD, Chi-O, and virtually every other sorority at Texas State.  From the "Whiteout" mixer with AZD to the "Casino Night" with ADPi, Phi Psi mixers are always an affair to remember.

Formals / Semi-formals - Every winter, Phi Kappa Psi holds it's annual "White Tie Formal" at the Omni Hotel in Austin. Known throughout Texas State as "the most formal formal of all" Phi Psi spares no expense - dressing in highly traditional white tie tuxedos and treating our dates to a night of dinner, drinks, and dancing.

At the end of each spring, Phi Psi holds its weekend-long "Hideout on the Horseshoe" semi-formal at a beautiful resort on the banks of the Guadalupe River. This famed event is a favorite among both the Phi Psi brothers and their dates.

Academics & Scholarships

alkPhi Kappa Psi is consistently one of the top three fraternities on campus when it comes to academic performance. Our chapter GPA is currently higher than the Texas State all-men's average, and was recently named "Most Improved GPA" by the campus Greek Council. Our members' stringent academic program makes it clear that succeeding in college is the top priority for everyone in Phi Psi. From group study hours, to brother tutoring programs, to our weekly study skills seminars, Phi Kappa Psi provides each of its members with the tools needed to achieve academically.

In addition to our award-winning academic program, the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity awards over $250,000 in scholarships annually to its' deserving graduate and undergraduate members. While some are reserved specifically for active Phi Psi brothers, a great many of these scholarships are dedicating to assisting the fraternity's new members with the costs of college. In Phi Psi, we encourage academic success right from the start.

Community Service

boysandgirlsPhi Kappa Psi was originally founded on "the great joy of serving others," and in this spirit, the Texas Gamma chapter remains dedicated to assisting the San Marcos community in any way we can. This past year, Phi Psi raised over $1,000 for the Hays County Women's Shelter through our highly successful "Respect & Honor" campaign. Our Phi Psi "Fill-Up-The-Truck" event facilitated the donation of over 1,100 pounds of canned goods to feed San Marcos families at the local homeless shelter.

In addition to our larger service projects, Phi Kappa Psi maintains an ongoing relationship with local youth organizations like the Greater San Marcos Youth Council and our nationally sponsored philanthropy, the Boys and Girls Club. In 2007 alone, Phi Kappa Psi members logged nearly 1,500 service hours, more than any other fraternity at Texas State.

Leadership Opportunities

DSCN0036American Leadership Academy - ALA is an exclusive leadership seminar hosted several times a year by Brother Jerry Nelson (founder of Ticketmaster) at his five-star resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. When you aren't hanging out on the Mexican beaches or taking in the Cabo nightlife, you'll be learning from some of the nation's top businessmen and educators. Seminar topics include business ethics, negotiation skills, career development, group leadership skills, and many others. ALA is a leadership opportunity reserved exclusively for brothers of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

PLA and FELA - The President's Leadership Academy and Fraternity Educators Leadership Academy represent two of the most highly respected leadership programs in the interfraternity world. Each winter, Phi Kappa Psi brings newly elected officers from all around the country to the National Headquarters in Indianapolis for a weekend of intense leadership training. Phi Psi's Fraternity Educators undergo a similar program at the start of each fall which stresses ways to develop newmembers in a safe, fun, and productive way.

woodrowWoodrow Wilson Leadership School - named after one of our most distinguished alumni, President Woodrow Wilson, WWLS provides leadership development and fosters critical group management skills. Through several days of close-knit living and learning, attendees gain knowledge and experience in working with others, learn more about leading and managing organizations, review the goals and ideals of the Fraternity and celebrate their membership in Phi Kappa Psi. Nationally known speakers and educators as well as Fraternity officers and staff are on hand to add to the program’s value. WWLS is held every other summer at the National Headquarters in Indianapolis.
